Week 01 – Concept Development

Project

The power of imagination

Tasks of the week

This project is part of a 10 week collaborative production between SCAD and TheMill NY. My group, The Future Team, is made up of 4 people: Elizabeth House, Eaza Shukla, Jie Chen, and myself.

The main task during this first week was to develop an idea that responded to the main requirement of the class which is: “Vehicle integration with effects”. For us it was a challenge to build a story where basically anything could be possible. But it was from our creative process that we discovered that the concept of “the power of imagination” could be our first step in creating our story.

Our story line: ¨A child’s dreams come to life as his miniature toy car materializes and takes flight¨ was inspired by the movies Ant-Man and the Wasp and Back to the future.

In a specific sequence of Ant-Man and the Wasp we see how a character drives a miniature car and suddenly it takes on its natural size. From this sequence we found the concept of using a miniature vehicle suddenly to be its real size very amusing.

For the end of our story, we decided to use as inspiration the last sequel from Back to the Future II where the Delorian flies down the street to travel to the future. In addition to this sequence, we also take as inspiration the modern adaptation of this flying effect that is in the movie Ready Player One.

The main effects that we want to use and that we take as reference are the smoke from the burning tires, the rescaling effect, the launch boosters on the tires.
